Former Indian cricketer and Sunrisers Hyderabad fielding coach Hemang Badani revealed an interesting incident that happened during the Day 3 of the Kolkata test back in the 2001 series when the hosts staged an epic comeback which resulted in a famous India victory.

On the 22nd anniversary of the remarkable game, Hemang Badani recalled that team packed their suitcases on Day 3 thinking that the match will be ended so that they can go to the airport directly from the ground, but surprisingly Dravid and Laxman stitched a fantastic partnership of 376 runs as Laxman scored 281 and Dravid 180 to put India in the driver’s seat.

“Not many know that at the end of day 3 we had packed our suitcases, they were to be taken straight to airport and the team were to go straight to the airport from ground. And then these two batted like magicians without losing a wicket the entire day.

Hemang Badani further continued that they didn’t have dresses in the hotel as they waited till 9 pm to get back the dresses from the airport.

“When we got back to the hotel we didn’t have our suitcases and were stuck with our match gear and tracks until about 9 pm or so. Lot of us ate dinner at the hotel restaurant in our whites. #INDvsAUS #laxman #dravid #BCCI.”

Though Australia had enforced the follow-on on the Indian team. India’s second innings score of 657 for seven declared left Australia with a target of 384 on a fifth-day pitch. India staged a comeback to beat the tourists by 171 runs in the match.
