“Rohit Sharma realized very early that he needed to get a biggie to get India into that strong position. 1st Test of the series, captain of the series, if he can lead from the front, he can get India there (to series victory),” Shastri lauded the batter’s efforts.

He’s Turned Into A Truly Good Test Batter – Ian Chappell Lauds Rohit Sharma

Former Australian cricketer and legendary batsman Ian Chappell praised Rohit Sharma as a good Test batsman and captaincy has added responsibility to his batting. Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma scored a terrific century on  Day 2 against Australia in the first Test of the four-match series and he became the first Indian captain to score a century across formats.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo after stumps on Day 2 of the first Test between India and Australia, Chappell said:

“Batting before Virat Kohli has made a big difference to him (Rohit Sharma). I think batting after Kohli made a bit of a problem for him. But I think also taking on the captaincy and realizing that you’ve got to be responsible for everything that happens, I think that’s made a big difference, and he’s turned into a truly good Test batter.”

He further went on to add to Rohit Sharma played with great composure and temperament and showed how to pace the innings in these kinds of conditions. Sharma impressed many with his gutsy knock in the first innings.
