Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has slammed KL Rahul for his continuous failures as an opener in Test cricket. Prasad has been one of the critics of Rahul’s poor form–and wanted Shubman Gill to replace him in the playing XI. As the India squad for the last 2 Tests has been announced on Feb 19; KL Rahul retains his place despite his poor form.
Prasad took his social media handle to write, if Rahul is given a chance in the 3rd Test against Australia, he should try to perform well and silence the critics including him.
The Karnataka-based batter’s poor average after 45 Tests, as well as his consistency in red-ball cricket, is questioned by many experts.
“But with KL being retained for the remaining 2 test matches, if he is picked in the playing 11, Indore is his best chance of coming back to form and silencing critics like me. Else needs to play county cricket, perform well and make a comeback in the Test side,” Prasad tweeted.

Venkatesh Prasad asked Rahul to play Country Cricket to return to form. Playing test cricket should be the priority for every cricketer and question whether KL Rahul will be able to skip IPL to play country cricket and get back to form just like Cheteshwar Pujara.
There Has Been A Lot Of Talk About His Batting – Rohit Sharma Backs KL Rahul To Perform Well
India comfortably won against Australia in the second test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, a lot of questions were asked about KL Rahul’s inclusion in the playing 11 ahead of in-form Shubman Gill. Rahul has been dealing with injuries for most of 2022 and struggling to find form in 2023.

Team Indian skipper Rohit Sharma defended Rahul’s place in the team–and it is all about giving the players a fair amount of chance to prove their potential.
“Of late there has been a lot of talk about his (KL Rahul) batting. For us as the management, we look at the potential of any individual, not just KL, and players with potential will get [an] extended run,” stated Rohit.
Rahul will be under immense pressure to perform well in the 3rd test in Indore If India management continues to back him to open along with Rohit Sharma.
