Team Australia gave debutant Matt Kuhnemann a chance ahead of experienced spinner Ashton Agar for the second Test against India in Delhi., Australia brought back Travis Head and debutant Matt Kuhnemann as their third spinner in place of Matt Renshaw and fast bowler Scott Boland.
Australian selector Tony Dodemaide opened up on the selection, Kuhnemann’s selection over Ashton Agar was purely based on form. Speaking to the media
“His red-ball game is not quite where he wants it to be,” Tony Dodemaide told reporters.
Dodemaide continued that Kuhnemann has impressed in limited chance and played extremely well in domestic cricket and the team feels that he is more suited to play in Delhi conditions.
“Matt Kuhnemann has come over and impressed. He got a chance in Sri Lanka, albeit in limited-overs form, he’s played well in domestic cricket this season and he’s impressed us in the nets. We just feel his style at the moment is more suited to these conditions,” he further added
Left-arm spinner Kuhnemann will join Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy in the spinning bowling department and will look to contribute to the team’s success in the 2nd Test against India

Australian team once again surprised everyone with their selection in the 2nd Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Australia has opted to go with three spinners and a single pacer going into the match. Tony Dodemaide defended Australia’s decision saying that the selection is based on the conditions.
“It’s a bit unusual going with three spins and one quick, We feel the pitch here, the conditions, we feel that spin will dominate the game once again, and from what we understand this pitch has been used three times already this year and there’s already substantial cracking in the areas where most of the game is going to be played. That’s the reason for going for the three spinners,” he said.
If Mitchell Starc or Cameron Green had been fit, there was a high possibility that Australia would have played two pacers and two spinners, giving the bowling attack a balance.
