Former Indian Coach Ravi Shastri wants Shubman Gill to play ahead of KL Rahul in the Indore test. Though India retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, a lot of questions were asked about Rahul’s inclusion in the playing XI ahead of in-form Shubman Gill.

Many former cricketers and media have criticized Kl  Rahul’s unimpressive performances for the last few years, especially in the longer format of the game. Ravi Shastri, in a conversation on The ICC Review, backed Gill to play the third test against Australia

“He (Gill) is that good at the moment and whether he scores or doesn’t score, on form, on merit, he deserves a chance,”  He said

Ravi Shastri admitted that it is a tough thing for a coach to drop a player, but everything comes down to the performance of the player and the duty of the coach to explain to the players what kind of cricket is expected out of them.

“Not at all. I mean, it’s straight up, It comes down to performance, You stick it on the board. This is the performance. It’s a tough thing for a coach, I remember I had to do it many times, where you just sit down, and explain to the player, ‘This is what’s on the board, what do you think?’
Ravi Shastri became the Indian cricket team’s head coach in 2017, during his tenure Team India performed exceptionally well in the overseas test series. India will take on Australia in the third match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy starting on March 1 in Indore. India is likely to bring in Shubman Gill in place of underfire KL Rahul.

Shubman Gill Likely To Replace KL Rahul In The Playing 11 Of The Third Test

India currently leads the four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series 2-0 with wins in Nagpur and Delhi and will look forward to winning the series in Indore and confirming their spot in the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023 as well.

Rahul has scores of 20, 17, and 1, drawing immense criticism from fans and cricket experts. Rahul managed to retain his spot in the Indian squad for the last two Tests but lost his vice-captaincy tag. Rahul’s last Test century came in December 2021 against South Africa.
Shubman Gill has been in a good form in his career and he has done a fine job as an opener so far — 689 runs in 13 matches at 31.31 and the majestic 91 at Brisbane. It is expected team management will give him chance ahead of KL Rahul
