Australian Skipper Pat Cummins is unlikely to return to India for the fourth and final test in Ahmedabad. According to reports Pat Cummins decided to extend his stay as he deals with a family illness. Cummins returned home after the end of the second test in Delhi due to his mother’s illness.

Steve Smith stepped in as skipper for the third time since  Pat Cummins became Test captain in November 2021 to secure a famous win for Australia in Indore this week. Steve Smith captained the team brilliantly with the tactical bowling changes and fieldsets.

Speaking to the media, Australian coach Andrew McDonald the players are constantly in touch with their skipper at home and added that Cummins is going through some tough times.

“Exchanges were going there between players and Cummins on Friday, He’s dealing with what he’s dealing with at home but he’s still so invested in this group, “ Andrew McDonald said.

The 41-year-old said that the team’s thoughts are always with him during this difficult time and also stressed that the final test is a few days away, so the call on Pat Cummins’ return will be taken soon.

“Our thoughts are still with him and his family at this difficult time. We’re in constant contact with him daily, so at the moment he’s not here and the Test match is a few days away, so we’ll discuss it with Pat daily.”

Steve Smith was the captain when Australia last toured India for a Test series in 2017. He had led his team to a win in the first Test although the visitors went on to lose the series by 2-1. Team Australia had high success under his captaincy, but he was removed from captaincy following a sandpaper incident against South Africa.

Australian Stand-in skipper said that he had no interest in leading the Australian Team and stressed that his time as captain is over. Many cricket pundits and fans praised Steve Smith for his impressive captaincy and wanted him to be a full-time captain for Australia.
