Former Indian Cricketer Wasim Jaffer feels Suryakumar Yadav should have anticipated the line and length by the Australian pacer Mitchell Starc in the second ODI against Australia. The Mumbai batter came under fire as SKY has been dismissed by Mitchell Starc in two consecutive matches for a Golden duck.
Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Jaffer admitted it was difficult for any batter to negotiate the opening spell by Mitchell Starc, but feels Suryakumar Yadav should have anticipated the ball coming in from the left-arm pacer. Surya found no answer to Starc in both matches as he was trapped in front of pads in both matches.
“We might sympathize with Suryakumar Yadav as the first ball that he faced was 145 clicks. No doubt that it’s challenging when a left-arm seamer tries to bring the ball back in. Again, he should have anticipated that when Mitchell Starc bowls, he will attack the stumps and might swing the ball,” Jaffer said.
Wasim Jaffer also added it will interesting to see the management goes with the final ODI in Chennai and suggested they can call Sanju Samson for the third ODI against Australia, who has done well in the limited opportunity for India.
“We have to see if the management sticks with him in the third ODI otherwise it’s not a bad option to give Sanju Samson a chance because he has played well when given the opportunity and he is a good player,” he added.
The number one T20I batter in the world failed to capitalize on the limited opportunity provided to him in the ODI format. Suryakumar Yadav has scored only 2 half-centuries in the 21 matches he has played so far in ODIs. The 32-year-old has so far scored 433 runs in 21 matches at an average of 27.06 and his best score is 64 not out.
