Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir heaped praise on former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to 25,000 international runs during the second Test against Australia in Delhi.

Kohli broke the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record by becoming the fastest batter to complete 25,000 runs in international cricket. He needed 549 innings to become the sixth batter in history to score 25,000 runs or more.

“I don’t know about the list but the best part of Virat Kohli is that he has performed the same in India and Australia, in South Africa. Kohli is a master of the 50-overs format but in Test cricket too he has scored 27 hundred and 28 fifties. He has centuries in England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies. What more can you achieve?

Virat Kohli is the only player with a combined batting average of more than 50 among batters who have scored more than 25000 runs. To date, he has scored a total of 74 centuries and 129 fifties. Gambhir said that scoring these many runs is tremendous and as a player, he has gone through a lot of ups and downs, and being able to score these many runs is a tremendous achievement.

“Scoring 25 thousand runs is no joke. He has seen a lot of ups and downs but has remained consistent. Your game goes through a lot of changes. Your stance changes, your technique changes, your strengths, and weaknesses change, your mode of dismissals becomes different, and your emotions change and if you can factor in all of that, control all these things, and score these many runs then you are great,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

The prolific right-hander who got there in 549 innings, surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, who had got there in 577 innings. The list includes Ricky Ponting (588 innings), Jacques Kallis (594 innings), Kumar Sangakkara (608 innings), and Mahela Jayawardene (701 innings). Virat Kohli will look to break many more records in the years to come.
