Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria feels young Indian opener Shubman Gill needs to improve his batting and utilize the opportunity provided to him. Shubman Gill replaced out-of-form KL Rahul in the playing 11 of the third test but failed to make an impact with the bat.

Speaking on his youtube channel, Danish Kaneria urged the Indian batters to step up in the final test and said that India might even be tempted to bring in Surya Kumar Yadav who can score quick runs which can change the momentum in favour of India

“India’s batters will need to step up. Rohit, Kohli, Gill, and Shreyas all need to score big. The team may even consider bringing in Suryakumar Yadav on such a track because he can play sweeps and reverse sweeps, which can be crucial on such tracks. They will need to think about what changes they can make to the team,” said Kaneria.

Kaneria stressed that Shubman Gill had a chance of scoring some crucial runs but failed and he also slammed Gill for his poor shot selection in the 2nd innings, Gill was dismissed as he tried to step out and hit Nathan Lyon for a six and completely missed the ball which hit the stumps.

“Shubman Gill will have the sword hanging on him now after he fails in Indore. He played a rash shot and coach Dravid was unhappy. When this happens, your place in the team comes under the scanner. At least KL Rahul was a bit unlucky in the way that he was getting out. Gill needs to improve and understand that he has to make the most of the chances given,” he stated.

It will be interesting to see if India adds an extra batter to their playing 11 in place of any bowler to strengthen their batting in the fourth and final test in Ahmedabad.

Harbhajan Singh Defends Shubman Gill’s Shot Selection In The Third Test

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh backed young Shubman Gill after he failed in the third test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Shubman Gill replaced out-of-form KL Rahul in the third test but failed to impress. Harbhajan defended Shubman Gill’s approach to going for big shots and added that it is difficult to defend for a long time on this kind of pitch.

Shubman Gill will look to make a comeback and score some runs in the fourth and final test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will be held in Ahmedabad where Shubman Gill plays for Gujarat Titans in IPL.
