Australian Coach Andrew McDonald revealed Australia will play with multi-dimensional players in the white ball series against India in the three-match series starting here on Friday in Mumbai. This series will play important role in Australia’s preparation for the ODI World Cup to be held in India, later this year.
Steve Smith will lead Australia in the upcoming three-match ODI series against India in the absence of their regular skipper Pat Cummins. Australia will be without the services of Pat Cummins for the ODI series, who lost his beloved mother very recently. Speaking ahead of the 1st ODI against Andrew McDonald said.
“We’ve got a couple of conversations around the balance of the team we want to play,” McDonald said.
Andrew McDonald said that Australia will try to bat as deep as possible which helps the batters at the top order to play free-flowing cricket and the all-rounders in their team will help to maintain the team’s balance and they would try few combinations keeping the World Cup in the mind later this year.
“We’ve gone in with a structure with eight batters to bat a little bit deeper, we’ve tried that. So there’ll be a mix of combinations as we lead into the World Cup. A lot of all-rounders (have been) picked for the squad and they can all play in one team. So we’ve got to answer a few of those questions,” Andrew McDonald added.
Australia will be boosted by the arrivals of Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh in their ODI series. Cameron Green will also bolster Australia’s bowling attack and can score some crucial runs for the team. David Warner’s participation in the 1st ODI is still unknown. Hardik Pandya will lead team India in the 1st ODI in the absence of Rohit Sharma who will miss out due to family commitments.
We Will See Warner Back In Australia On 1st ODI – Andrew McDonald
David Warner was ruled out of the second Test in Delhi due to concussion before an elbow injury ruled him out of the remainder of the four-match series. According to reports the veteran batsman could reportedly miss the series-opener in Mumbai due to the elbow injury that he sustained during the Delhi Test last month.
“They will look at Dave in Mumbai for game one and make a call from there,” a team spokesman said.
Speaking to the media, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said that Warner has recovered very well, so they hope that will play for Australia in the 1st ODI.
“He’s recovered from his injury, so we’ll see Dave back in Australian colors on the 17th and we’ll go from there,” McDonald said.
On the other hand, David Warner is going through a rough patch in test cricket and the calls for his retirement in the longer formats have increased. In his last 15 Tests innings, he has crossed the 50-run score just once which was the double century against South Africa.
