Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden slammed the Indore pitch for its slowness and turn in the first half an hour of the 1st innings in the third test. Having won the toss, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma elected to bat first and the side was bowled out cheaply for 109 runs.

India brought in Shubman Gill and Umesh Yadav in place of KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami, whereas, Australia also made a couple of changes by bringing in Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc in place of David Warner and their skipper Pat Cummins.

Speaking on Star Sports, Matthew Hayden said that the pitch was too spinner friendly and the batsman couldn’t apply themselves on these kinds of surfaces and added that even if Australia lose this test match he said that these kinds of surfaces or “not good” for test cricket.

“No way spinners should come to bowl in the sixth over. This is the reason I don’t like these kinds of surfaces. It shouldn’t be keeping this low and turning so much on Day 1. It doesn’t matter whether Australia wins this Test or India. These kinds of surfaces are not good for Test cricket,” Hayden said.

Hayden further added test matches need to be played for at least four to five days and these kinds of pitches will ensure the test match is finished soon. The last two matches were completed in three days.

“You are allowed to have a four-five days Test match. At this pace I feel sorry for the fans, I don’t think this Test will go for Day 4,” he stated.

Over time,  criticism takes place that Indian pitches are prepared in a more spinning-friendly manner and the Nagpur and Delhi pitches received “average” reports from ICC.

Matthew Hayden Offered To Help The Australian Team Before The Third Test In Indore

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden offered to help to struggle the Australian Team in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Hayden had an excellent outing for Australia in the 2001 tour when the left-hander averaged 110, and  Hayden was also part of the 2004 Australian team – the only Australian side to win a Test series here in India over a long period.

Matthew Hayden, who is part of the broadcaster team with Star Sports is open to helping the Australian team–and said that he would share his experience with the current generation of players.

Hayden also worked with Pakistan National Team as a mentor in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Hayden is probably the only Australian batsman who had sweeping success in India.
