Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir feels getting dropped from playing 11 might hurt KL Rahul, but Gambhir believes that Rahul will stage come back through Indian Premier League. Gautam Gambhir will mentor KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants this season.
The Cricketer-turned-commentator while talking to Sports Tak, said these kinds of things happen to every cricketer–and any cricketer cannot play with the same consistency for a long time. He reckons that every cricketer goes through ups and downs in his career and added that getting dropped from the team will affect the player’s mindset.
“These things happen to every cricketer. Name one cricketer who has scored runs with the same consistency from the start to the end. And these things are good for you. These things should hurt you. If it has hurt him then it is a great thing for us. When you see someone else play and you are running around as a 12th man with water bottles, it should hurt you,” he asserted.
Gambhir reckoned Rahul can use the IPL as an opportunity to reinvent himself to score some impact runs for the team and the former opener also stressed that it is important to score vital and impact runs rather than being the highest run-getter in the tournament.
“You have scored four-five hundreds in the Indian Premier League. But if you are not on the T20 side and not in the playing XI of the Test side, then you can look at IPL as an isolated tournament or look at it as an opportunity to reinvent yourself. Scoring more than 600 runs in an IPL season is not important. Score 400 but those should impact your team’s performance,” Gambhir added.
