Former Australian Opener Matthew Hayden hailed Ravichandran Ashwin for his fantastic fifer on the Ahmedabad wicket, which was challenging for bowlers. The exciting fourth and final test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy is Underway in Ahmedabad.
Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his 26th five-wicket haul and in the process, he went past the legendary Anil Kumble to reach this massive milestone. Speaking on Star Sports, Hayden praised Ashwin for bowling in the 1st innings.
“He always works out how to stay in a game and how to bowl to a player and that’s what it takes. When you look at the series, there have been so many occasions where, if you look at the figures of spin bowlers, they didn’t have a good day similar to a batter,” Hayden said.
Matthew Hayden continued Ashwin can be proud of what he has achieved in the final test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy and cited the example of the Indian Skipper who scored a fantastic hundred against Australia in the 1st test and also added these kinds of performances will give Ashwin more satisfaction than one in bowling friendly conditions.
“If you are scoring a hundred like Rohit Sharma did in the first Test on a tricky wicket, they are the ones you remember in your career, Ravi Ashwin will also think that this is something he can remember. He can say ‘You know what, in these challenging conditions, I still managed to get a fifer’. It’s also about his tenacity, just hang in there, he is a great international cricketer,” he stated.
Ravichandran Ashwin who was the star performer for India in the 1st innings picked up 6 wickets. Ashwin surpassed Kumble’s tally of the highest wicket-taker in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Ashwin has been India’s go-to man in the series and has picked up crucial wickets for India.
Usman Khawaja Is Similar To Mark Waugh – Matthew Hayden
Matthew Hayden praised Usman Khawaja for his fantastic hundred in final test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy and feels Khawaja should have played more matches for Australia and compared his gameplay to the legendary Mark Waugh, who is known for stylish game play.
“Usman Khawaja should be in that 100 Test match category. He’s played 59 Test matches, I reckon that he is 40 short of what it should have been, and that is due to his underwhelming body language. He is similar to someone like Mark Waugh. He was so stylish that the word ‘soft’ was invented”.
Usman Khawaja has been a star performer for Australia with bat in this series, he scored brilliant century in the final test and has been the most consistent batter for the visitors. Usman Khawaja became only the 4th Australian opener to score 150+ runs in a Test match in India.
