Australian spinner Nathan Lyon finally had the better of Indian opener, Shubman Gill, after the batter was dismissed after tea for a brilliant 128 on day three of the ongoing fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad on March 11, 2023.
Shubman Gill who replaced an out-of-form KL Rahul in the Indian XI in the third Test which was played in Indore, couldn’t do much in his team‘s embarrassing defeat at the Holkar Stadium scoring 21 and 5 runs on a rank turner.
Australia piled up a massive 480 in the first innings in Ahmedabad on a placid track thanks to 180 from Usman Khawaja and a maiden Test century from all-rounder Cameron Green. Australian tail also wagged as Nathan Lyon made 34 and Todd Murphy added 41 runs to the total.

India had started off well in their first innings, scoring 74 runs for the first wicket before Rohit Sharma fell for 35 runs. Then Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara (42) added 113 runs for the second wicket, frustrating the Australian bowlers, before Todd Murphy had Cheteshwar Pujara out LBW.
Shubman Gill Continues Purple Patch, Hits Magnificent 128 Before Falling LBW To Nathan Lyon
While wickets fell at the other end, Shubman Gill continued his sublime batting, hitting boundaries at will and kept the threatening Australian spinners at bay as well. He made his half-century in 90 balls and then raced to his second Test century in 194 balls, hitting 10 fours and 1 six during his sublime knock,
But it was Nathan Lyon who ended his knock, which was looking like going to be a big one. In the 79th over, Nathan Lyon bowled a full loopy delivery outside off that zipped into Gill. Shubman, playing on the back foot, tried to work it into the leg side while deep in the crease.

But the ball missed the bat and thudded into the pads and the onfield umpire judged Gill LBW. But he opted for the DRS review and the replays showed that the ball hit him in the line of stumps and was hitting the leg stump.
Gill received a standing ovation from the Ahmedabad crowd as he walked off for 128 with 12 fours and one six to his name.
