Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that the change in the ball during Australia’s second innings does not have anything to do with their performance in the third test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Australia made a thumping win over India to keep their hopes alive of drawing the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

With only 76 runs to defend, the Indian bowler brilliantly started the innings by dismissing Khawaja for a duck and putting pressure on the batters and the Indian bowlers didn’t give any easy runs to the Australian. Speaking to Media after the match.

“It was only 70 runs to get, so you can’t look too much into the ball and all that. It’s just that we needed more runs on the board. Those little things that happen on the ground don’t affect the skills and the mindset of the player.”

During the innings, the ball was changed and Australian batters started to score with ease when asked whether the ball change has impacted India’s performance with the ball. Rohit Sharma admitted that there are not enough runs on the board to defend and it has nothing to do with ball change.

“We felt the ball was not right, we changed it. Whenever you change the ball, if things don’t fall into place, then it looks like, ‘Oh, the ball wasn’t doing much.’ But had we gotten two or three wickets with that other ball, it would have been a different story. There weren’t enough runs on the board and that is where we should look at. That is what we are disappointed with – not (with) the ball,”  Sharma said.

There was a lot of criticism over Rohit Sharma’s captaincy over his calls on DRS in the 1st innings, sending Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Shreyas Iyer and Demoting Axar Patel to Number 9 who has been the best batter for India in the edition of Border Gavaskar Trophy.
