Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri slammed India’s approach in the third test following their nine-wicket loss against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series. The Indian team was bowled out cheaply by Australian spinners in both innings.
Ravi Shastri criticised the Indian team, as they look overconfident in their approach–and they have taken things for granted.
“This is what a little complacency, a little bit of overconfidence can do where you take things for granted, you drop guard and this game will bring you down,” speaking on star sports, Ravi Shastri said.
Ravi Shastri was unhappy with the way the Indian batters played some shots and they were over eager to dominate in this condition, he also reckoned that they’re a need to analyze and respect the conditions and play accordingly.
“I think it was a combination of all these things when you cast your mind back to the first innings, see some of the shots played, see some of the over-eagerness to try and dominate in these conditions. You reflect, take a step back or two to analyze,” Shastri said.
Matthew Kuhnemann picked up a 5-wicket haul in the 1st innings and Nathan Lyon ran through the Indian batting on day two to end with an eight-wicket haul in the second innings and picked up 11 wickets overall in the match. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne put up an excellent partnership to take Australia home in the third test.
Poor Shot Selection By Virat – Ravi Shastri Unhappy With Virat Kohli’s Shot Selection
Ravi Shastri expressed his disappointment over Virat Kohli’s shot selection in the second innings of the third test against Australia. when Kohli tried for a pull shot he was trapped in front by Matthew Kuhnemann.
Legendary Sunil Gavaskar and Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik too criticised Kohli’s shot selection and Kohli himself looked visibly unhappy with the mode of dismissal
“Poor shot selection. The ball wasn’t bouncing much, the better option would have been if he had targeted mid-on with a straighter bat,” Shastri added.
Except for Cheteshwar Pujara none of the Indian batters were able to apply themselves on the tough Indore wicket and were cheaply bowled by Australia. A win in the third Test for India could have secured the series as well as a spot in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC). The Men in Blue have a lot of questions to be answered in the final Test in Ahmedabad.
