Bangladesh’s hopes of getting something positive from the two-day practice game prior to the one-off Test against India was brutally quashed in the first session of the second day as India A finished on 243 for 1, 19 runs ahead of Bangladesh’s total.
Before coming to India, Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim had said his team had the potential to stun their fancied opponents in any condition.
He had said:“No matter what condition they offer, we have a balanced side. We have enough pacers and spinner and depth in batting.”
But the way the practice game has panned out so far, there is absolutely no doubt that that the ninth-ranked Test team will have to play out of their skin if they want to avoid a defeat at the hands of world number one side. On the first day, the visitors had declared at 224 for 8 with their skipper Rahim (58) and Soumya Sarkar (52) being the only major contributors. In reply, India A finished on 91 for 1 after losing their skipper Abhinav Mukund cheaply and continued their domination on the second day too.
On a pitch that had very little assistance for the bowlers, India A’s top order batsmen made merry. Led by Priyank Panchal’s unbeaten 103 and Shreyas Iyer’s 100 (retired hurt), the Indian outfit completely dominated Mushfiqur Rahim’s men. Panchal and Ishank Jaggi (18) will start the proceedings with the bat after the break.
