- England defeated India by 7 wickets in the first T20I to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Chasing 148, Sam Billings and Jason Roy fired on all cylinders and raced to 42 in only 3.2 overs before Yuzvendra Chahal brought the hosts back into the match by castling both the openers in the same over. However, an 83-run partnership between Eoin Morgan and Joe Root set the platform for an easy chase. The partnership was broken when the England skipper was sent back by Parvez Rasool for 51. Root and Ben Stokes then scored the remaining runs quite comfortably to cap off a fine day for their team.
Earlier, the Indian batsmen failed to break the shackles against a disciplined bowling performance from the England pacers. Virat Kohli (29), Suresh Raina (34) and MS Dhoni (36) were the only notable contributors as the hosts huffed and puffed to 147 for 7 in their alloted 20 overs.

Not many teams give #India a T20 Masterclass … especially not in their own back yard … #IndvEng #Boom

England's bowlers won it for them. Ensured batsmen didn't have much to do.

I am afraid young Bumrah has to ensure he is bowling legal deliveries. Suspect his coach is going to be unhappy.

Dhoni is the best at assessing conditions & playing accordingly. He's got India to a good score. A lesser player would've panicked #IndvsEng
