A middle-order collapse from the Indian team followed by a brilliant partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja has put the third Test at Mohali evenly poised.
In reply to England’s first innings total of 283, India started poorly once again as Murali Vijay returned to the pavilion after scoring only 12. The hosts lost another wicket when Parthiv Patel was dismissed with only 73 runs on the board. A partnership of 75 runs between Cheteshwar Pujara and skipper Virat Kohli helped hosts reach 148/2 at tea.
However, the visitors clawed their way back in the match by dismissing Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Karun Nair within 18 balls. The hosts suffered the biggest setback when they lost Kohli, still trailing England by 79 runs. Another scalp would have surely helped Alastair Cook’s men to take the upper hand in the match but Ashwin and Jadeja shared an unbeaten partnership of 67 runs as India finished Day 2 on 271/6. Ashwin continued his fine form with the bat and scored his third consecutive century.
Earlier, resuming the day on 268 for 8, England’s lower provided little resistance and could add only 15 runs to their overnight score.

This long home season isn't helping Rahane. We all know he needs alien conditions to get him going. Can we loan him to Australia for a test?
