IND vs ENG 2016, 4th Test: Twitter Reacts As India Step Closer To Series Win
Dec 11, 2016 at 5:27 PM
India is 4 wickets away from sealing the series while England finished the day on 182 for 6, still need 49 runs to make India bat again.
Trailing by 231 runs, England started poorly as their first innings’ centurion, Keaton Jennings was dismissed for a golden duck by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. A 46-run partnership between Alastair Cook and Joe Root steadied the ship for a while but two wickets (Cook and Moeen Ali) inside 9 balls gave the hosts an upper hand in the match. Root and Bairstow then added 92 runs for the fourth wicket and were looking well-settled but Jayant Yadav gave the visitors a huge setback by dismissing the former for 77. Any hopes of saving the Test match took another blow when R Ashwin dismissed Ben Stokes and Jake Ball in quick succession to leave England reeling on 182 for 6.
Earlier, resuming the day on 451 for 7, Virat Kohli and Jayant Yadav scored their career-best scores to put the hosts firmly in the driver’s seat. Yadav joined Kohli in the middle when the score was 364 for 7, 36 runs behind England’s first innings total of 400 runs and then added 241 runs for the eighth wicket. The monumental partnership was ended when Jayant Yadav was stumped out for a well-made 104 runs. Virat Kohli soon followed Yadav to the pavilion but before that he had scored a colossal 235 to help his team tighten the grip on the match. The hosts were all out for 631 runs, 231 runs ahead of England.
