India has given a strong reply to England’s mammoth first inning total of 477 as they finished the second day on 60 for no loss. Parthiv Patel, who opened the innings because Murali Vijay was injured, is unbeaten on 29 while his fellow opener KL Rahul is playing on 30.
Earlier, India made a fine start to the day as they took some quick wickets to put the visitors on the backfoot. Resuming the day on 284 for 4, England lost Ben Stokes in the very first of the day when he edged an R Ashwin delivery to the wicketkeeper.
The score at that time was 287 and 13 runs later, Ishant Sharma brought India right back into the game after dismissing Jos Buttler. And Moeen Ali was dismissed for 146 with the scorecard reading 321, England’s hopes of scoring a big total was looking bleak.
However, Adil Rashid and debutant Liam Dawson added 108 run for the eighth wicket to help their team cross the 400-run mark. Both the batsmen scored half-centuries and the partnership was finally ended when Rashid edged Umesh Yadav behind the wicket for a well-made 60. Stuart Broad and Jake Ball too chipped in with valuable runs as England scored a mammoth total of 477 runs.

Kohli is such an aggressive captain that we believe we can win even after opposition posts around 500+ runs in the first innings. #INDvENG

Three debutants in this series for England – Hameed, Jennings & Dawson – all three went on to score fifty-plus on debut. #INDvENG

The more you see Mooen's discomfort against bouncers, the more you wonder why Indian seamers didn't bowl them enough on day-1. #INDvENG
