Huge doubts are still lingering over Stuart Broad’s participation in the fourth Test as England head coach Trevor has said he his not 100 percent confident of the fast bowler’s fitness.
Broad missed the third-Test in Mohali with the achilles tendon injury to his right foot that he sustained in the Vizag Test. It was initially expected that the bowler would recover from the injury soon as he put in one of his most impressive performances in the sub-continent so far, with figures of four for 33 in India’s second innings. The 30-year-old has been wearing a protective boot to speed up his recovery since he has not recovered fully.
With the team already 2-0 down in the series, England are desperate to have their premier fast-bowler back in the playing eleven and that is why he is continuing his rehabilitation now with the team while the rest of the squad are enjoying the weekend off in Dubai.
When the England coach was asked whether Broad will be available for the Mumbai Test, he said:“I’m not 100 per cent confident. He’s out of the moon-boot now, but we won’t really know until he gets back for those practice days before the Test. We’ll leave him as late as possible.”
The visitors have been away from their country since September. They played a series in Bangladesh before arriving in India and Bayliss said the break in Dubai was a good opportunity for his players to switch off from cricket.
Bayliss said:“We’ve been on the sub-continent for a long time. It can be difficult at times, even away from the game – the different types of food even, everything that goes along with it.”
“This is an opportunity to get away for three or four days, refresh and — we hope — come back raring to go.”
