England’s middle-order failed to display the defiance that was shown by their openers Alastair Cook and Haseeb Hameed on Day 4, as they meekly surrendered the second Test to give Virat Kohli-led India a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
The visitors suffered a huge setback on the very last ball of the fourth day as they lost their skipper Alastair Cook and it seemed they never recovered from it. Resuming the Day 5 on 87 for 2 in pursuit of an improbable target of 405, the visitors lost Ben Duckett after only five runs were added to the overnight score. Wickets kept on falling at regular intervals as England were eventually dismissed for 158, handing India a huge win by 246 runs. Debutant Jayant Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin finished the innings with three wickets each while Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two scalps each.
The caravan will now move to Mohali where the third Test will start from November 26.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the match:
There is something about #SouthIndia and decency that even #Virat celebrated Indian victory without using expletives !#INDvsENG

England's decision to ban a fit, available Kevin Pietersen looks more absurd every minute of this series in India. #INDvENG

Jayant Yadav appeals with far more restraint than his seniors, needs to step up and appeal for everything to be taken seriously.#INDvENG

Duckett's flash-the-cash strokeplay about as much use as a R500 note in this situation. He'll be back, but probably not next week! #IndvEng
