IND vs ENG, 2nd Test: Batting Will Get Tough On Last Two Days, Says Jayant Yadav

Jayant Yadav has made a brilliant start to his Test career so far. On the second day of the Vizag Test against England, the all-rounder left everyone impressed with his stupendous performance. At first, the right-handed batsman provided the hosts with very important lower-order runs (35). He followed it with an even bigger contribution when his fantastic piece of fielding saw the in-form Haseeb Hameed getting run-out. Later, he capped off a fine day by getting rid of Moeen Ali.

After the end of the third day, India were 98 for 3, extending their overall lead to 298 after dismissing England for only 255. Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav chipped in with a scalp each. However, Jayant and Jadeja will have to play a bigger role with the ball in the second innings if the hosts are to win the match.

Speaking to media after the day’s play, the Haryana all-rounder admitted his association with Ashwin goes back a long time and thanked the Tamil Nadu bowler for helping him.

Jayant said: “I first got to know him in 2014 through Eric Simons. I think he was preparing for the England tour and it was very sweet of him to help me because, at that time, I was just playing Ranji Trophy.

“We have a good rapport, we have a good friendship going on. He talks a lot of sense about bowling. It is all about learning. He didn’t give a lot of technical inputs (in this match) but he told me about bowling different lines to different batsmen, be consistent all the times and where I was erring on the length. He told me a few things so that my length goes up,” he added.

Yadav also praised Ashwin for his brilliant bowling. On a pitch that did not spin much, Ashwin drifted the ball outstandingly well to claim five wickets.

Jayant said: “Drift is because of the revolutions, the point of release. A lot of things fall into place for that drift to happen. Right now, Ash is bowling beautifully, like a dream. You have to work on it, it doesn’t just come overnight. You have to put a lot of effort in it and a lot of technical things also go into it.”

The all-rounder said it will tough to bat on the Vizag pitch on the last two days. The pitch is showing variable bounce and Yadav feels the visitors will find it tough to play the Indian spinners.

“It’s going to be a tough proposition because we strive ourselves on being a consistent spin squadron. As you see, the variable bounce, the odd-ball turning, the odd ball keeping straight, it is going to be really tough,” he concluded.
