IND A vs ENG: Twitter Reacts As MS Dhoni’s Captaincy Career Ends On A Disappointing Note
Jan 10, 2017 at 9:39 PM
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s illustrious career ended on a disappointing note as England defeated India A by 3 wickets in Dhoni’s last game as a captain of any Indian team.
Chasing 305, the visitors made a flying start as Jason Roy (62) and Alex Hales (40) added 95 runs for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. 11 runs later, the chinaman bowler struck again to send back Roy and Yuzvendra Chahal then dismissed Eoin Morgan shortly to put India on the driver’s seat.
England clawed their way back into the match with a 79-run partnership between Sam Billings and Jos Buttler. But the visitors were once pushed on the back foot when Yadav dismissed Buttler and Moeen Ali in the same over.
The topsy-turvy match took another turn as Billings and Liam Dawson added 99 runs for the sixth wicket before both were dismissed inside an over to leave England needing 15 runs in the last 23 balls. Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid then managed to hold their nerves and took England with balls 7 remaining.
Earlier, Dhoni, playing his last game as the captain of an Indian team, led from the front as his 40-ball 68 helped his team to post a mammoth 304. India A began poorly as opener Mandeep Singh returned to the pavilion after scoring only 8 before Shikhar Dhawan (63) and Ambati Rayudu (100) steadied the ship with a 111-run partnership. Another century stand between Rayudu and Yuvraj Singh (56) set the platform for Dhoni to finish the innings with a flourish and he fully capitalised on it by scoring a quickfire fifty.
Let us see how Twitter reacted to the match:
You have to feel for Rayudu. Does everything asked of him as a player, now scores a century but everyone was waiting for Dhoni to appear!
