IND vs NZ 2017, 3rd ODI: Virat Kohli Becomes Quickest to 9000 ODI Runs
India captain Virat Kohli added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap, as he became the quickest cricketer to reach 9,000 runs in ODIs, bettering South Africa star AB de Villiers’ record during the ongoing third One-Day International against New Zealand at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.
Playing his 202nd match and 194th innings, the Indian run-machine reached the milestone with a four off right-arm medium-pacer Colin de Grandhomme in the 37th over and reached 83. De Villiers, who previously held the record, had achieved the milestone in 205 innings. The duo is followed by Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara.
Here is the list of top 5 cricketers with quickest to 9000 ODI runs:
|AB de Villiers||205|
Kohli had also broken de Villiers’ record of quickest to 8000 runs in the 50-over format when he achieved the feat in just his 175th innings compared to the South African’s 182 innings.
Meanwhile, during his innings Kohli also achieved yet another record, breaking the legendary Ricky Ponting’s record to become the captain with most ODI runs in a year. Kohli, who was handed the ODI captaincy earlier this year, went past Ponting’s tally of 1424 runs during the innings. Kohli and Ponting are followed by Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq, India’s Mohammad Azharuddin and Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews (2014). Meanwhile, India were 227 for one when Kohli became the quickest to 9000 runs.
