India defeated New Zealand by six wickets in the second ODI at Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune courtesy a perfect game by the Indian team. Almost every player played his part and contributed in the win and helped India level the series 1-1 with the final match to be played in Kanpur. New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat first, but the decision backfired as they lost early wickets and were restricted to 58 for 4 in the 16th over. Tom Latham tried to carry his form from the first match and tried to steady the ship for the Kiwis along with Henry Nicholls.
However, he lost his middle stump trying to play a sweep shot to Axar Patel. No Kiwi batsman was able to score a half-century in this match. For India, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets giving away 45 runs in his ten overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets each.
In the second innings, India had a comfortable run chase. Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik scored fluent half-centuries to guide India to a comfortable win. Adam Milne was the pick of the bowlers for the New Zealand as he picked up one wicket and gave away just 20 runs in his seven overs.

Here is what Virat Kohli said in the post-match presentation.
“Pretty good game for us today, exactly what we spoke at toss time. Bowlers were really clinical today and fielders as well. Both those guys are coming along nicely. They know they’re going to start more often than not. Today, with the wicket being slow, it was heartening to see them getting wickets in conventional ways. Dhawan has been playing really well. He’s pretty confident at the moment. Dinesh as well, getting some crucial runs for himself as well as the team. I look forward to challenges. We spoke about bouncing back, and we have bounced back here today. Would look to play a similar sort of game in Kanpur as well.”
