IND vs NZ 2017: Virat Kohli Felicitated on His 200th ODI in Mumbai

Team India skipper Virat Kohli soon after the first One-Day International of the three-match series on Sunday (October 23), was felicitated by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) at the Wankhede.

The 28-year-old Kohli smashed a hundred while featuring in his 200th ODI fixture and eventually became the second all-time player to register a triple-figure mark after South African AB de Villiers in the 50-over format.

However, Kohli’s century went in vain, as it got overshadowed by the sublime 200-run stand for the fourth wicket between Tom Latham and Ross Taylor which helped New Zealand beat India by six wickets.

Pertinently, Kohli was presented a memento by the president of MCA, Ashish Shelar, who thoroughly praised the efforts of the former.

Following his 121-run knock which further comprised of nine boundaries and two maximums, Kohli also became the second player to score most number centuries in the 50-over format. Kohli surpassed the former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting to add another feather to his illustrious cap, as he has now 31 hundred under his belt.

The prolific Kohli is now second on the all-time list of most hundreds in ODIs. The legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar is topping the charts with 49 hundred during his promising top-flight career in 463 matches.

The top-order batsman, Kohli has been a batting mainstay for India, as he again stated his dominance with the bat by helping hosts to post 280 for eight in the first ODI.

Kiwis players on the other side played with sheer aggression which equally was praised by Kohli. The left-handed batsman Latham remained unbeaten on 103, as Taylor was dismissed on 95 before Henry Nicholls finished the innings with a six.

With already down in the series 0-1, the Kohli-led side is looking forward to regrouping in a bid to give their best after taking a lesson from the first game. The second ODI is scheduled on October 25 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

On the other end, the cricket body will also felicitate the former skippers of Mumbai on November 8 which would be their 500th first-class Ranji Trophy fixture at the same venue.

The ceremony is scheduled at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai before hosts will take on Baroda in the Group C. The runners-up of 2016-17 Ranji edition, Mumbai has had collected 41 titles since the inception of the four-day fixture.
