Desperate to win their first match on the India tour, New Zealand posted 242 for the loss of 9 wickets in the second One-Day International at Kotla.
Earlier, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl first. Umesh Yadav justified his skipper’s straightaway as he dismissed New Zealand opener Martin Guptill on the very second ball of the match. Beaten 3-0 in the Test series, down 1-0 in the ODI series, it was not the start that the visitors were hoping but their skipper Kane Williamson came to the rescue. He added 120 runs for the second wicket with Tom Latham to steady the ship. After Latham’s departure, Ross Taylor failed to score big and was dismissed for 21. But Williamson held firm from the other end and scored his eighth Test century. With 202 runs on the board by the end of 40th over and Williamson and Corey Anderson on the pitch, the visitors would have hoped to cross the 300-run mark. However, their batsmen failed to capitalise on the strong platform and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals after the 40th over. As a result, the visitors never got the impetus towards the end of the innings and finished their innings on 242 runs.

Even NZ team felt bad last time as @imVkohli could not score a century so this time they are scoring so that he can. #indvsnz @vikashmoond7

Surely NZ Cricket would be better off playing Hesson ahead of Guptill. Or any Bus Driver. Or a drunk kiwi holidaying in India. Or the Benj.

Honestly I don't rate Williamson too highly as a captain. Phenomenal batsman, but perhaps someone else could take over as skipper? #indvsnz
