IND Vs SL 2017, 1st Test: Indian Player’s Ratings

IND Vs SL 2017: Following the champion effort from India with the ball in the final session of the first Test on day five, the hosts would be brimming with confidence even after perishing in the first innings when inclement weather played the spoilsport for the first two days.

As the conditions changed session after another, India skipper Virat Kohli-led from the front to register his 18th Test hundred in 61st Test while admitting the fact the conditions were difficult on the Eden Gardens surface.

However, the ranked number one India showed the character in the second innings which further saw the top-order batsmen were brimming with confidence, after being among runs.

On the other side, Sri Lankan batting line-up was vulnerable, and in the spectacular fashion fast bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has shown a quality improvement with the red-ball to break the back of the Islanders.

In first innings, India was bundled out for 172 in 59.3 overs, as Suranga Lakmal bowled superbly to claim four wickets in 19 overs.

Sri Lanka in the response posted 294 in 83.4 overs which saw Indian fast bowlers claimed all ten wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, as Mohammed Shami also claimed four scalps.

India in second innings declared on 352 for eight in 88.4 overs while riding on the century of Kohli followed by half-centuries from both the openers in the form of left-handed Shikhar Dhawan and right-handed KL Rahul.

Talking lot from the first game, India has been a dominant force in the longer version of the game, as the second Test is slated for November 24 in Nagpur.

This is how the hosts playing XI fared in the first Test at Eden Gardens:

Shikhar Dhawan – 5/10:

After failing to give a start to the hosts in first innings, the swashbuckling opener smashed 94 off 166 deliveries in second innings.

Owing to the brisk start, Dhawan smashed 11 boundaries and two maximums.

KL Rahul – 4/10:

The right-handed batsman KL Rahul, who smashed nine fifties in 11 Test innings since Pune Test against Australia, after a pair in the first innings struck 79 off 125 balls. His innings included eight boundaries to score at the strike-rate of 63.20.

Cheteshwar Pujara – 4.5/10:

Cheteshwar Pujara has been on a role for India with the bat at the top, in the first innings, Pujara was the top-scorer with 52 off 117 balls, before scoring 22 in the second.

Pujara has been a strong force to reckon, as he played a crucial part in the first innings when Lakmal was on song with the red cherry.

Virat Kohli – 7/10:

Virat Kohli, who is the man to amass runs at will, was once again in serious business with the willow when he brought up his 50th International hundred on the fifth and final day of the Test fixture.

Earlier, Kohli struggled in the first innings which saw him walking off the ground after facing 11 balls to score nought.

Leading from the front, Kohli backed his bowlers to mount pressure on the Lions at the fag end of the day.

Ajinkya Rahane – 0.5/10

With the miserable outing, Ajinkya Rahane is the deputy of Kohli and is expected to deliver a lot owing to his capability.

The right-handed batsman Rahane was able to score just four in both the innings which explained how dismal he has been with the willow in the middle-order line-up.

Ravichandran Ashwin – 1/10:

The ace off-spinner was only able to bowl in the first innings. However, he didn’t succeed to claim a wicket in his eight overs.

Ashwin scored 11 in both the innings and was equally at the receiving ending during the fielding when Lankans were batting at the Eden Gardens.

Wriddhiman Saha – 2.5/10:

Gloveman Wriddhiman Saha, who showed some resilience in the first innings to score 29 off 83 balls, just managed to score five off 23 in the second innings.

However, he was decent behind the stumps throughout the Test fixture.

Ravindra Jadeja – 1.5/10.

Surprisingly, Jadeja bowled just two overs in Kolkata Test.

The man with an effort has made things easy during the fielding for the national side, but the surprise in the just finished Test saw him send down only two overs in the match.

The all-rounder posted 37-ball 22 in the first innings before the 41-ball vigil saw him adding just nine and threw away his wicket.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 8/10.

Spectacular with the ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was phenomenal and at his best on the 22-yard surface, as he was adjudged Man of the Match while collecting eight wickets in the game.

Bhuvneshwar also scored 21 in the first Test.

Mohammed Shami – 6.5/10:

The right-arm fast bowler claimed six scalps in the first Test which further saw him smashing 22-ball 24 runs in the first innings before he remained unbeaten on 12 in the second innings, respectively.

Umesh Yadav – 4/10:

Improved bowler Umesh Yadav managed to bag three wickets in the match in 25 overs on a surface which offered assistance to fast bowlers. He also batted in the first innings in which he was able to score six off eight balls.
