The Test will be the first of the three home Test matches, which Indian team will be playing in the ongoing home season. India had played a total of eight ODIs and six T20Is till now and is slated to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Sri Lanka, following the Test series during the season.
The home side will look to continue the purple patch in the home season, as the last time team India played a home season, they lost just one out of 13 Tests and won 10 games in totality. Looking at the form of the Virat Kohli led side, team India looks favourite going into the Test series against Sri Lanka.

The last time when these two teams met each other, India whitewashed Dinesh Chandimal led side by a margin of 3-0 in Sri Lanka. Vistors continued their dream run in the series and went on to win the limited-overs series as well, thus posting a series win of 9-0 in total, keeping Sri Lanka empty-handed.
In the home conditions, India will look to dominate the struggling team again.

Meanwhile, keeping the upcoming challenges in consideration, the selectors decided to release Hardik Pandya from the Test squad. The all-rounder will be the key for the Indian team when they travel South Africa next year, for a full-fledged series. The fitness of Pandya will play a key role in the team India’s success.
The first Test between India and Sri Lanka will start on November 16 in Kolkata. The second and third Test will be played in Nagpur and Delhi. A limited-overs series will follow.
