Sep 17, 2018 at 4:52 PM
Thisara Perera is appointed the new Sri Lanka’s One-Day captain. The fast-bowling all-rounder replaces opening batsman Upul Tharanga who endured a terrible time since getting named as the full-time skipper after Angel Mathews stepped down from the post in the aftermath of the 3-2 series against Zimbabwe at home.
Perera will start his spell in the upcoming three-match series against India and will also lead the side in three-match Twenty20 International series. upul tharanga wife

Last month, Perera had led a new-look Sri Lankan team in the T20I series against Pakistan after Tharanga along with several other players had refused to play in Lahore, where the third match of the series was scheduled.
The ongoing year has been a disaster for the Islanders as far as ODIs are concerned. They had begun the year by suffering a 5-0 whitewash at home. However, as expected they would do well at home, but they failed to do so. They could not win the series at home against Bangladesh before exiting the Champions Trophy at the group stage.
It was followed by a humiliating loss at home against Zimbabwe before India piled their misery by inflicting another 5-0 whitewash on them in their backyard, as they somehow qualified for the 2019 World Cup.
Perera, meanwhile, will have his task cut out in his very first assignment, as his team will start the series against India as the underdogs. But the Islanders will be hoping that a change in captaincy changes their dwindling fortunes. The series gets underway on December 10 in Dharamsala.
