The series will be team India’s first T20I assignment after this year’s IPL and a few new faces are named in the India squad for the T20 series against the Men in Maroon. The senior players are not part of the T20I squad as they will be given some much-needed rest ahead of this year’s World Cup.
The Indian team is scheduled to play two tests, three ODI’s, and five-match T20 series on the Caribbean soil, which would help the team to prepare for the much anticipated Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.
Youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Mukesh Kumar were given the opportunity in the squad for the first time, while the likes of Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and Jitesh Sharma were ignored from the Indian squad for the tour of West Indies. 1. Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh enjoyed his best-ever campaign in the IPL as he starred with the bat. The southpaw just left the cricketing world awestruck with his stunning power-hitting and finishing abilities. The 25-year-old scored 474 runs in 14 games at an average of almost 60 in IPL 2023 and a strike rate of nearly 150. He also played one of the best IPL knocks of all time in the last season when he smashed Yash Dayal for 5 sixes in a row in the last over to seal the victory for the two-time champions.
The youngster has been serving them as the finisher of the team, as he showed composure and temperament to finish the game at the end for his team. The UP youngster was ignored from the T2o squad for the Caribbean series, but the youngster is likely to be part of the Indian side for the Ireland series and Asian Games 2023.
2. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Stylish Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has grown up in the ranks in domestic cricket and the cash-rich league. The CSK opener played a pivotal role for his team in their title-winning campaign in the IPL 2023. It is reported that the Indian youngster is also part of the Chennai Super Kings leadership group under MS Dhoni. He got excellent technical skills in his batting and can be a key player for India in the future.
CSK opener would look to make the opening spot in the Indian team in all three formats of the game. The 26-year-old has been fantastic for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2023 season and has also done well for Maharashtra across formats. He has shown excellent temperament to excel in all three formats of the game in domestic cricket, the youngster is one of those notable names ignored for the India squad for the West Indies tour.
3. Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh Iyer made his mark with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he made a brilliant comeback after an injury. He seemed equally comfortable against pace and spin, as he can also bowl some overs in the middle for the India team. The 28-year-old has put in the grind on the domestic circuit and made a comeback in the IPL 2023, where he played a few match-winning knocks for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
If the all-rounder can find his consistency in International Cricket. He can play the role of Hardik Pandya in the Indian team, as he can also bowl some medium pace in the middle over. The Indian all-rounder can bowl medium pace which can be handy for the Indian team in a limited-over format, but the Southpaw was not part of the Indian squad for the West Indies series.
