Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid is happy with the performance of young Yashasvi Jaiswal in his debut game against West Indies in the tough conditions of Dominica and admitted that young Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal would face challengers when they got to play more International games.
The Left-handed opener displayed excellent composure, as the youngster showed a lot of grit and determination to score his maiden century in International Cricket. Another youngster Shubman Gill has shown his worth in all three formats of the game since his debut for India and has been enjoying some fine form in 2023.
Speaking to the media ahead of the 2nd test against West Indies, Rahul Dravid is pleased by the brilliance of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 1st test and lauded the young opener for his technical ability in the game and reckons that these youngsters will face tougher challenges once they got play a lot of test cricket and believes that West Indies could come with better plans for the 2nd test in.
“I was very pleased to see that he was willing to play an attacking game when required, but also knuckle down and be defensive and work hard for his runs when required. As a coach, nothing pleases you more than that,” Rahul Dravid said.
“I know that Jaiswal and Gill will face other tougher challenges as they play more and more cricket. Teams will start getting to know them better. The challenge for Jaiswal [and Gill] is to respond to the tactics and strategies that West Indies is going to come up with in this game,” Rahul Dravid added.
Young opener Shubman Gill moved down the batting order in place of the experienced Cheteshwar Pujara and will look to make that spot his own in the longer format of the game and Yashasvi Jaiswal made it into the Indian team following a terrific IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals and a domestic season with Mumbai and will look to continue his fine form going into the 2nd test.
