Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir wants the young Yashasvi Jaiswal to be part of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup in 2024 whereas he wants Kolkata Knight Riders finisher Rinku Singh to perform consistently in IPL and domestic cricket to earn his place in the Indian team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made it into the Indian team following a terrific IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals and a domestic season with Mumbai. The Left-handed opener displayed excellent composure, as the youngster showed a lot of grit and determination to score his maiden century in International cricket followed by a half-century in the 2nd test.

Speaking to News18, Gautam Gambhir feels that Yashasvi Jaiswal is selected on merit to be part of the Indian team on the back of his performance in the IPL and reckons that the players who are performing well in the cash-rich league deserve a place in the Indian team as it runs for two months in a cricketing year.

“In India, the issue is that we take the 2 months of IPL so seriously that whoever does well we add him to the Indian team. Jaiswal has scored a double hundred in domestic cricket both in First Class and One-Day matches,” Gautam Gambhir said.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the standout performer for Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded Indian Premier League and impressed everyone which his fearless approach to batting at the top of the order.

The left-handed opener has scored 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48.08 and has hit five half-centuries and one century in the season. He was also named the Emerging Player of the Season and is also named in the squad for the T20 series against West Indies.

But Do Not Select Anyone After One Season – Gautam Gambhir

“Rinku Singh’s story is inspiring and he has performed well as well. But do not select anyone after one season. Let Rinku score runs in the domestic season and then return to IPL and score runs again and if he is consistent then you can think of adding him to the Indian team,” Gautam Gambhir added.

The southpaw scored 474 runs in 14 matches at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.52, with four half-centuries importantly finishing the games for his side from tough situations.

Rinku Singh has been brilliant in this edition of the Indian Premier League as he has exceeded expectations of the cricketing fraternity with the ability to take the bowlers all around the park and finish the games from nowhere for the two-time champions.
