Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s father revealed that the opener was emotional after scoring his maiden century in International cricket. The youngsters have come a long way, as the 21-year-old made it into the Indian team following a terrific IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals and a domestic season with Mumbai.

The Southpaw scripted history as he recorded a hundred in his maiden Test on away soil. The Mumbai-born batter became the 17th Indian batter to score a century on his debut for the Indian team in the longer format of the game. The opener showed a lot of composure to score runs in the tough conditions at Dominica.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s father revealed that the youngster called him at 4.30 am after scoring his first century in International and said that he is very emotional during the phone call and asked whether he was happy with his performance in the 1st innings.

“He called around 4:30 am in the morning (IST) after scoring his century (Day 2). He couldn’t hold back his tears. I cried too. It was a very emotional moment. He could not talk for a long time. He was tired. He just asked me ‘are you happy, father?’,” Yashasvi Jaiswal Father said.

The 21-year-old also has the unique record of playing the maximum number of balls by an Indian debutant in the longer format of the game having played 387 balls in his knock of 171 runs in the 1st innings and the youngster just fall 17 runs short of the being the highest run-scorer for India in 1st test.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was grateful to get the player of the match award on his maiden International match, as he worked hard to make it into the big stage and wants to continue playing in the same fashion going forward as he wants to keep contributing to the team success in the given opportunities.

“It felt very nice getting the Player-of-the-Match award on debut. It’s been a long journey, feeling very happy and good about it. Let’s see what the future holds for me, this is just the start (of my international career). Pray to God that I continue playing like this, keep making (such) efforts, and keep contributing to the team,” Yashasvi Jaiswal said.

Given his form and confidence, he would be a vital cog for the Indian team going forward in all three formats of the game. The Left-handed opener will look to continue his fine form into the 2nd test followed by the five-match T20 series against West Indies.
