Former Indian Opener Wasim Jaffer shared his opinion on the Indian squad for the West Indies tour starting on June 12. The Indian team is scheduled to play two tests, three ODI’s, and five-match T20 series on the Caribbean soil, which would help the team to prepare for the much anticipated Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.

The Experienced Indian players  Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav were removed from the team following their poor performance in the World Test Championship final against Australia. Youngsters Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar were given the opportunity in the squad, while consistent domestic performers like Sarfaraz Khan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Baba Indrajith were ignored from the squad.

Taking his social media account, Wasim Jaffer was baffled by the Indian selector’s decision to select four openers in the squad( Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ruturaj Gaikwad) in the squad instead of going for a consistent performer Sarfaraz Khan in the middle order

1. What’s the need of four openers? Instead they could have picked Sarfaraz as extra middle order bat to honour his consistent domestic performances.

Wasim Jaffer questioned about the decision to select Ruturaj Gaikwad over the domestic performer Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal in the team, as they performing for their team in domestic cricket.

2. Easwaran and Panchal have also been doing hard yards in Ranji and India A, knocking on Test doors for a long time. Just because they don’t play IPL, is it a case of out of sight out of mind? How did Ruturaj jump the queue?

Easwaran has always been a part of the India ‘A’ and has been waiting a long time for his turn.  He led India A during the tour of Bangladesh and has been a standout performer for the team scoring 141 in the first game and 157 in the second game in away conditions. Gujarat Priyank Panchal also performed well in domestic cricket but was not given the chance at the highest level.

Surprised To See Mohammed Shami Rested That Too After A Month Long Break – Wasim Jaffer

The Punjab Kings batting coach asked about the selector’s decision to rest India’s primary pacer Mohammed Shami in the West Indies series ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.

3. Surprised to see Shami rested that too after a month long break. I feel he’s the type of bowler that the more he bowls the better/fitter and in the form he gets.

Mohammed Shami is expected to spread head India’s pace attack in the forthcoming marquee event alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, as the fast bowlers will be crucial for India’s chance in the big events.
