Ace Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is not thinking too much of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup as he wants to focus on the next four games against West Indies and revealed that the team combination is the top priority of the Indian team.
Chahal is constantly among the wickets in the white-ball format of the game and has added more variations to his arsenal, making him more lethal. Though he has performed well for India, he could not find a place in the playing 11 in the 2022 T20 World Cup due to playing combination and his place in the 2023 ODI World Cup is still uncertain with India preferring Kuldeep Yadav ahead of him in ODI Cricket.
Speaking to the media ahead of the 2nd T20 against West Indies, Yuzvendra Chahal wants to do well for the Indian team in the next four T20 matches and revealed that the team will have a camp post the completion of the West Indies tour before the squad for the Asia cup being announced.
“At present I need to perform well in the four matches. I think about one step at a time. After this series, we’ll have a camp and then the team will be announced. I am not thinking about Asia Cup or World Cup now, Team combination is our priority and it is not something new,” Yuzvendra Chahal said.
Many believe that Indian bowling duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav can be spinners for the Indian team in ODI Cricket, as they dominated the batters during 2017-19 before falling out of favour for the Indian team but the Indian team management is looking at playing Axar Patel in the team as he can give some runs batting lower down the order.
I Keep Working On Nets So That Whenever I Get The Chance I Will Grab It – Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal believes that the team management can play only three spinners if the wickets are spinner friendly or else they can go only with the two spinners admitting that Kuldeep Yadav is well in the pecking order ahead of him to be part of the playing 11 as he doing exceedingly well for the Indian team.
“At 7 we generally play Ravindra Jadeja or Axar Patel. Three spinners can only play if the wickets are spin friendly. Kuldeep is bowling really well, he is in a great rhythm and that’s why the team is backing him. I keep working on nets so that whenever I get the chance I will grab it,” Yuzvendra Chahal added.
Rohit Sharma-led side requires a wicket-taking spinner going into the important World Cup year, as the spinners can be crucial for their chance to end the long-awaited ICC title drought on home soil.
