Former Indian Skipper Sourav Ganguly urged the Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya to make a comeback in Test Cricket for India. The 29-year-old has been an invaluable asset for the Indian team since his debut and played his last red-ball game in 2018 against England following which he hasn’t tested himself in the test cricket.
The all-rounder looked like an indispensable member of India’s Test team especially on the overseas tour before injuries derailed his Test career. The Indian all-rounder has played 11 Test matches for India and has been out of the Indian Test team owing to his injury problems.
Speaking to Sports Today, Sourav Ganguly wants Hardik Pandya to make a comeback in test cricket, as he can be vital for the Indian team, especially in overseas conditions and believes that India has enormous talent in the country and also reckons that Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli can continue playing the game, as the WTC Final is just one-off game.
“And I hope Hardik Pandya is listening. I want to see him play Test cricket, especially in these conditions as well.”
“Let’s not come to conclusions with just one loss. India will always have talent. I don’t think it’s time to look beyond a Virat (Kohli) or (Cheteshwar) Pujara. Virat is just 34,” Sourav Ganguly said.
Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia in the World Test Championship final in Kennington Oval, as the experienced Indian batters could not put up a match winnings performance with the bat in the much-awaited final.
In Domestic Cricket There Are Some Fantastic Players – Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly feels that India has got some serious talent in domestic cricket and said that their talent at the highest level can be seen only when they are provided with an opportunity to perform for the Indian team and hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajat Patidar, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Shubman Gill for their consistent performance in domestic cricket.
“In domestic cricket, there are some fantastic players and you will only find out when you give them the opportunity. Whether it’s a (Yashasvi) Jaiswal or Rajat Patidar. There is Abhimanyu Easwaran from Bengal who has scored a lot of runs. Shubman Gill is young,” Sourav Ganguly added.
Yashasvi Jaiswal did reasonably well in this year’s Ranji Trophy as he amassed 315 runs for Mumbai at an average of 45.00 including scores of 213 and 144 in the Irani Cup against Madhya Pradesh and the Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran too scored loads runs for the Bengal team in last few seasons and it will be interesting to see whether India give some opportunity to youngsters in the forthcoming series.
