Young Indian opener Shubman Gill opened up about his string of low scores against the West Indies in the first three games of the five-match T20 series after shutting down the critics with a gritty half-century in the crucial fourth game to keep the series 2-2 on Florida.
With 179 runs to chase, Young Indian openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal took the Windies bowlers to the cleaners for the Word-go, as they formed a record partnership of 165 runs for the 1st wickets to help the Men in Blue chase down the target in 17 over and will look to continue his fine form going into the deciding final T20 game of the series.
Speaking on BCCI.tv to his fellow-teammate Arshdeep Singh, Shubman Gill asserted that it is important to stick to his basics in the game and said that he didn’t make much of the mistakes in the first three games as he felt that he could not convert his starts in the innings and added that it is important to find a template to score runs consistently in the shorter format of the game.
“It’s important to go to your basics. You have to identify whether you are making any mistakes. I felt I wasn’t making a mistake in any of the three matches. But I couldn’t convert my starts,” Shubman Gill said.

“T20 format is like that. When you have 3-4 matches where a good shot is caught by the fielder, and you have to eye for making quick runs, you don’t have time to think much. You just look at what your template was when you were consistently scoring runs,” he added.
This innings against West Indies would be a big confidence booster for Shubman Gill, who has been in poor form in the series so far. The youngster scored only 45 runs in three innings during the Test series, where most of the Indian top-orders batters achieved success and had decent ODI series as he scored a half-century in the final game and the youngster could not make an impact in the T20 series before the innings in the 4th T20 game.
Shubman Gill will look to carry his form in the final game against West Indies for the Indian team and the form of the youngster will be crucial for the Men in Blue going into the Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.
