Young Indian batter Shubman Gill feels that batting at the number three position is a good position for him to play in test cricket going forward having batted at that position in India A games. The 23-year-old has opened the batting in the longer format of the game and will take up the position of Cheteshwar Pujara in the ongoing West Indies series.

Shubman Gill touted to be the next big thing in Indian cricket and the prolific batter is expected to be the next superstar from India. He has been in the form of life since the start of the 2023 season, proving to be a vital cog for the Indian team in all three formats of the game

Earlier, Rohit Sharma revealed that young Shubman Gill will bat in the number 3 position against the West Indies team, as wanted to play lower down the order as a long-term prospect.

“He himself went up to Rahul bhai (coach Dravid) and requested that since he has played all his cricket at No. 3 and 4, he feels he could contribute more for the team in that slot,” Rohit Sharma said on Gill’s batting position.

The Indian youngster has been in fantastic form in International cricket this year, with an average of over 60 across three formats, including five centuries in 17 matches, and will look to continue his fine form in the forthcoming series.

Speaking to the broadcasters about his batting position, Shubman Gill said that he had a lot in the middle overs in the longer format of the game during the India A Tours and believes that it best position for him to bat in the future and added that he also has the advantage of playing with the new ball as an opener.

“In India A matches, I batted a lot at No.3 and 4. They asked me where I wanted to bat in the series and I said I wanted to bat at No.3 and I think it’s a good position for me that is where I wanna consolidate.

“It is always an advantage to play against the new ball. I have that advantage while opening the batting. Batting at No.3 is not very different from opening the batting. You probably get a little more break in between innings,” Shubman Gill said.

The 23-year-old has been in the form of his since the start of 2023 scoring hundred in all three formats of the game for India and has established a name for himself in all three formats of the game, as the youngster has shown the ability to play under different conditions.
