Former Indian opener Abhinav Mukund feels that it is not early to comment on the form of the Young Indian opener Shubman Gill after his string of low scores on the Caribbean soil. The 23-year-old could not make an impact for the team in the series so far and will look to turn things around in the remaining games.

The 23-year-old has been in the form of his since the start of 2023 scoring hundred in all three formats of the game for India.

Just before the start of the series, the Indian youngster has been in fantastic form in International cricket this year, with an average of over 60 across three formats, including five centuries in 17 matches but could not continue his fine form against the Men in Maroon.

Speaking on Jiocinema, Abhinav Mukund feels that it is early talk about the failure of Shubman Gill as he has done exceedingly well for the Indian team in the last couple of years and wants everyone to look at the performance of players in different formats as they always tend to associate player’s form from one format to the other.

“I think it’s too early to talk about Shubman Gill’s failure because he has had a phenomenal last couple of years. It is important as a viewer and as an Indian cricket fan to not mess up formats. I feel we always tend to mix up formats and we tend to drop here and there, and we tend to associate form concerned with certain formats,” Abhinav Mukund said.

The youngster had been in top form before the start of the International calendar as the played a crucial role for Gujarat Titans in the cash-rich league. In IPL 2023 season, the Indian youngster has slammed 851 runs at an average of 60.79 and a strike rate of 156.43.

Abhinav Mukund said that Shubman Gill has been a top player for India in ODI Cricket and believes that he should make it into the India squad for the ODI World Cup and excepts him to come back at his usual best very soon in white-ball cricket.

“The Test format is done with. As far as ODIs are concerned, Shubman Gill is our top player, and I think he should go to the World Cup. I don’t think his form is a concern. I’m sure he’ll be back with a bang,” Abhinav Mukund added.

Shubman Gill scored only 45 runs in three innings during the Test series, where most of the Indian top-orders batters achieved success and in the 1st ODI he managed to score only 7 runs before being dismissed, as many raised concern regarding his form in overseas conditions.
