Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal ruined the missed opportunity to score big runs in the 1st innings of the second test against West Indies. The 21-year-old made a half-century in his second game after a brilliant century in his debut at Dominica.
Winning the toss West Indies opted to bowl against the mighty Indian batting lineup, India batted brilliantly well in the 1st innings, with Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal providing a fantastic start to the innings, as they formed a second consecutive 100 runs partnership in the red-ball cricket followed by Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja putting a partnership to take India to 288-4 at the end of Day 1’s play.
Speaking to the media after the end of the Day 1 play, Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his disappointment in not being able to score big runs after being well-settled in the middle alongside Rohit Sharma and reckons that he wants to keep learning in International cricket and contribute to team’s success in the best way possible.
“Of course I’m disappointed, but it happens in cricket, I’ve to keep learning and make sure what I can do the next time I come in that situation. It’s okay, it’s cricket. Every time the desire is to ensure how well I can contribute and play well for the team. That’s the thought in every match – to set a good platform for the team,” Yashasvi Jaiswal said.
The left-handed opener scored a brilliantly half-century on Thursday before chasing the ball of Jason Holder outside the 0ff-stump to get caught by Kirk Mckenzie for well-made 57 runs including nine fours and one six in his innings in The Queen’s Park Oval on Day 1.
