Indian veteran pacer Ishant Sharma hailed Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for his impressive debut against the Men in Maroon in the 1st test in West Indies. The Southpaw batted brilliantly in the 1st innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma to score his debut century in test cricket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal made it into the Indian team following a terrific IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals and a domestic season with Mumbai. The 21-year-old showed a lot of grit and determination to score his maiden century in International cricket.
Speaking on Jiocinema, Ishant Sharma feels that young Yashasvi Jaiswal is ready to play against high-quality opponents like England and Australia on their home soil, as he got the temperament and technique to play for the team in the longer format of the games, as he plays the full delivers very well in the initial phase of the innings and added he looked to score runs in the new ball in square of the wicket, which is good signs of opening batter
“According to me, he is absolutely ready because if you see this innings as well, all the boundaries he hit, especially against the new ball, they all came with cut or pull shots. It is a great sign for an opening batter when he refrains from playing a cover drive to full delivery. If you play the cover drive, there is a chance of you getting caught behind or in the slips.”
“He looked to score runs only with cuts and pulls against the new ball, which is every batter’s strength. Whenever the ball was pitched up, apart from an odd loose shot, he either defended it or played with the full face of the bat. This becomes very important for an opener,” Ishant Sharma said.
In 15 matches in first-class cricket, Jaiswal has amassed 1845 runs at an average of 80.31, apart from scores of 213 and 144 in the Irani Cup against Madhya Pradesh. The batter has a history of playing long innings once being settled in the middle.
Ravichandran Ashwin Knows What Line To Bowl And How To Vary His Pace – Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma said that they are no better bowler in the world other than Ravichandran Ashwin to utilize the conditions if the surface offers some turns, as he exactly knows how to bowl on these type of conditions, and lauded him for mixing up his pace in the innings which makes it difficult for the batters to pick him.
“The conditions were also very supportive for Ashwin because the ball had started to spin. When the ball turns, no bowler is more dangerous than Ashwin. When the ball turns even slightly, he knows what line to bowl and how to vary his pace, because of which he picked up five wickets,” Ishant Sharma added.
The Indian spinner was introduced early in the innings, which helped the team pick up crucial wickets in the middle overs in the 1st innings. He made a comeback into the playing 11 picking up 5 wickets in the 1st innings of the 1st test against West Indies.
