Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta hailed Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for his impressive debut against the Men in Maroon in the 1st test in West Indies. The Southpaw has been batting brilliantly in the 1st innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma after bowling out the home team cheaply for 150 runs in the 1st innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made it into the Indian team following a terrific IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals and a domestic season with Mumbai. The 21-year-old showed a lot of composure to start his innings against the West Indies pacers on the Day that favoured the Indian bowlers.

Speaking on Espncricinfo, Deep Dasgupta heaped praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal for taking his time to settle down in the middle to score his first runs in International cricket followed by which played fancy shots including reverse sweep and stepping down the ground in the final overs, as the batters usually try to play out the final overs of the day and lauded for his temperament and technique against West Indies bowlers.

“He (Jaiswal) looked extremely comfortable. He took like 16 deliveries to get off the mark and it showed that he had calmness, which doesn’t come easy for a debutant I can tell you that for sure. And then there are two extremes”.

“He played a reverse sweep and stepped out in the last over where batters generally tend to play for the end of the day’s play. That tells a lot about his approach and whatever we have seen of him on the first day was very very good. Temperament, technique, and approach, you name it and he has got it,” Deep Dasgupta said.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been the standout performer for Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded Indian Premier League and impressed everyone which his fearless approach to batting at the top of the order, taking on the world-class bowlers in IPL 2023, which helped him to cut the Indian side. In 15 matches in first-class cricket, Jaiswal has amassed 1845 runs at an average of 80.31, apart from scores of 213 and 144 in the Irani Cup against Madhya Pradesh.

Deep Dasgupta lauded another debutant Ishan Kishan for his wicket-keeping skills on day 1 and his chat behind the stumps and added that it looked like the Mumbai Indians wicket-keeper was enjoying his time in the field.

“The catch was good and the stump mic volume was pretty high so he was chatty behind the stumps. It seemed like he was having fun and the catch was really good behind the stumps,” Deep Dasgupta added.

Ishan Kishan will look to make use of the opportunity in the first test against West Indies as he was preferred ahead of KS Bharat, who kept wickets for the Indian team during the World Test Championship final against Australia in England.
