Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra feels that debutant Mukesh Kumar has marched ahead of the experienced Jaydev Unadkat in the pecking order following his brilliant bowling with the new ball against the West Indies team at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Mukesh Kumar picked up his maiden wicket in International cricket as a reward for his consistent bowling on the tough surface in West Indies. The Bengal pacer bowled with a lot of disciplines hitting in the right line and length throughout the game.
Speaking on his Youtube Channel, Aakash Chopra hailed Mukesh Kumar for his brilliant bowling on his debut game for India and believes that he has overtaken Jaydev Unadkat in the Indian pace attack as he was trusted with the second new ball alongside Mohammed Siraj and reckons that he would have picked some wickets if he had some luck on his side.
“We need to talk about Mukesh Kumar. He was playing just his first match and in that, Jaydev Unadkat was given the new ball along with Mohammed Siraj. When the second new ball came, the captain gave him (Mukesh) the ball.
“He bowled a very good ball. If he had been slightly luckier, he would have picked up more wickets with the second new ball. When the second innings came, he was given the new ball. It wasn’t given to Jaydev. It means he went slightly ahead in the pecking order in just one Test match,” Aakash Chopra said.
Mukesh Kumar made it into the Indian side following his impressive performance in domestic cricket. The Bengal pacer can be more vital for the Indian team in red-ball cricket with his experience in domestic cricket can come in handy for the team.
India Batted In An Extremely Interesting Fashion – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra heaped praise on the Indian batters for coming out all guns blazing against the West Indies bowling attack in the 2nd innings as they played with a lot of intent in the 2nd innings of the game. The Indian openers played a counter-attacking knock to score quick runs for the team alongside Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan to set up a massive total for India to defend.
“They came all guns blazing. The intent was seen. India batted in an extremely interesting fashion. Rohit Sharma scored runs once again, he was hitting fours and sixes. Yashasvi Jaiswal did get out and then came Ishan Kishan, the debutant in this series,” Aakash Chopra added.
Ishan Kishan played exceptionally well against the West Indies bowlers to score 52 runs off 34 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes in the 2nd innings to give the Indian team a chance to win the 2nd test on the Caribbean soil alongside Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 2nd innings and the Indian team will look to bowl out the West Indies team on the Day 5 of the game.
