Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has spoken about the poor form of Sanju Samson in T20 cricket following India’s two-wicket defeat against the West Indies on Sunday. The 28-year-old could not make an impact for India in the first two games of the 5-match T20 series against Men in Maroon.
Team India lost the second consecutive game against the Men in Maroon after a poor batting performance in 1st innings at Guyana with Tilak Varma being the only bright spot in the batting for India and also questioned Sanju Samson’s batting approach in the first two games as he has not seized the given opportunity in the Indian team so far.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv Patel feels that India has been missing batters who can bat a long in the innings and raised his concerns regarding the form of Sanju Samson in the given opportunities and warned that he might be running of time out of time with a lot of players waiting in the wings and feels that the Kerala batter has failed to use the given chances to perform for the team in the highest level.

“Every time India loses, we look at the negative points. Throughout the white-ball series, there has been talk about the need for batters to bat long and it is something that has been missing so far.
“Every time Samson is not in the squad, we talk about him, but he has not cashed in on the opportunities he has availed of so far. Probably time is running out for him, maybes yes or maybe no.
“Samson has been getting a lot of opportunities, to be honest, he is just not making the most of the opportunities that he is getting. There was only one batter who looked comfortable and that was Tilak Varma,” Parthiv Patel said.
Sanju Samson could not make an impact with the bat, as he failed to use the opportunity to score runs in the 1st T20 failing to help India cross the line in the game and also losing the chance to bat deep in the 2nd T20 as he threw wicket away in tough situation on Sunday.
West Indies Were Very Disciplined With Their Bowling – Parthiv Patel
Parthiv Patel hailed young Tilak Varma for his brilliance in the middle overs and lauded him for his ability to rotate the strike and take on the spinners and also praised the West Indies team for their disciplined bowling throughout the game.
“The way Tilak rotated the strike, the way he used the reverse sweep against spinners, the way he scored sixes over covers, through this he showed the range he has,” Parthiv Patel added.

“West Indies were very disciplined with their bowling, they did not try to do anything extra. They kept hitting the length, they backed themselves and the fielding was excellent as well,” he further stated.
The young Tilak Varma showed his class against the West Indies attack to score his first half-century in International cricket as he batted exceedingly well against the spinner and pacers. The 20-year-old made it into the Indian team following a brilliant IPL with Mumbai Indians in the last couple of years.
