Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Abhishek Nayar believes that young Indian batter Rinku Singh is a definite contender for the role of the finisher in the Indian team in the white ball format of the game. The 25-year-old will be part of the India squad for the Ireland tour and the Asian Games 2023.

The southpaw just left the cricketing world awestruck with his stunning power-hitting and finishing abilities in the IPL 2023. Rinku Singh scored 474 runs in 14 games at an average of almost 60 in IPL 2023 and a strike-rate of nearly 150 producing some memorable knocks for the KKR in this edition of the cash-rich league.

Speaking to the Republic World, Abhishek Nayar feels that Rinku Singh has the capability of the playing role of the finisher in the Indian team following his brilliance for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023 and reckons that he needs to be backed by the team management and asserted that role of the finisher is tough as they would more failures than success and believes that left-hander finisher is the right man for the job.

“There are multiple players who can achieve that. There is one player, Rinku Singh who played the role of a finisher really well for KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) in the 16th edition of the IPL. He has also played that role in domestic cricket, but in my opinion, he’ll still need some more time, he’ll need a longer rope, he needs to be backed.

“Being a finisher is very tough and you’ll have more failures than success while taking that responsibility. It requires a lot of experience. Tilak Varma has proved his mettle up the order and he is terrific at number 4 but the only name that comes to my mind and I say it clearly without any bias is Rinku Singh,” Abhishek Nayar said.

Rinku Singh was the standout performer for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) since the second half of the IPL 2022 and had served them as the finisher of the team, winning the games single-handedly for his side in IPL 2023 and would like to do well for the Indian team in the Ireland series.

Rinku Singh Has This Unique Capability Of Going In And Consistently Hitting Big Sixes – Abhishek Nayar

Abhishek Nayar believes that his biggest strength lies in the ability to get going from the ball one as he consistently hit big sixes for the team despite not having a big build body and expressed his confidence of he doing well for the Men in Blue given a long rope in the team.

“I have seen this Indian kid do so well as a finisher. He has this unique capability of going in and consistently hitting big sixes. He is not one of the biggest blokes. He can play that role really well, but he will need that long rope,” Abhishek Nayar added.

The youngster has been serving KKR as the finisher, as he showed composure and temperament to finish the game at the end for his team and the Indian team management would look to get him into the Indian T20 side for the role of finisher with an eye in 2024 T20 World Cup.
