Young Indian opening pair Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have bettered the opening partnership record of Pakistan openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to hold the record of the highest opening partnership against the West Indies in the shorter format of the game.
The Indian openers went all guns blazing against the West Indies bowlers in the 4th game. Both Indian openers scored a brilliant half-century for India to chase down the target in 17 overs, while the Windies bowlers found no answers to the batting exploits of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. They formed a record-opening partnership of 165 runs to keep the new-looking Indian side alive in the 5-match series.
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal equalled the long-standing record of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul of the highest-ever record of opening stand for India in T20Is where they made 165 runs against Sri Lanka at Indore in Sri Lanka in 2017.
The Left-hander opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his maiden half-century in the shorter format of the game, as he played exceedingly well against the pacers and spinner playing some scintillating shots to score an unbeaten 84 off 51 balls while under-performing Shubman Gill has finally found his form in the T20 cricket scoring 77 runs off just 47 balls to help India win the game in 17 overs.
They Can Be Something As Great As A Sachin Tendulkar And Sourav Ganguly – Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa hailed the young Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill for their batting in the 4th T20 match against West Indies and reckons that both the batters have the ability to take on the bowlers and believes that they can become dangerous opening pair for India and compared them with the likes of legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
“Everyone who plays for India is equally capable and has equal ability but the way Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill bat in tandem; they can bat for each other as well and they need to find that space.
“If they do, they are going to be a very dangerous pair for India in years to come. It will be a hot pair and they can be something as great as a Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly opening the batting,” Robin Uthappa said.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly were the core of India’s batting line-up for a long time in International cricket as they formed many formidable and match-winning partnerships for the Indian team over a long time and this duo would require a lot of effort to do special things for the Indian team.
