Indian veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik believes that young Shubman Gill is going to special player for the Indian team in the foreseeable future. The young Indian batter has had an underwhelming West Indies tour, as he scored only 16 runs in the two innings in the two-match test series.
Shubman Gill had below-par performances since his debut for India in Test cricket in Australia. Since then, he has two hundred in Tests, four centuries in ODIs, and one ton in T20Is. So far, he has scored 937 runs in 18 Tests at an average of 31.23 with 2 centuries to his name in the longer format of the game.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik feels that Shubman Gill has got the ability to do special things for India in the future and wants everyone to be patient with the Indian youngster and reckons that he has improved over the years since his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 season and believes that he could improve his with the time in the longer format of the game.
“I can promise you, Shubman Gill is going to be something really special in the long run. Just stay with him, just be patient. Even in T20 cricket, I remember when he came to KKR, he wasn’t exactly doing what he is doing today. Just give him time. There is nothing he needs to do in terms of technique or mental preparation,” Dinesh Karthik said.
Young opener Shubman Gill moved down the batting order in place of the experienced Cheteshwar Pujara but the promising youngster could not make an impact for the team in the two-match series. The 23-year-old has been in the form of his since the start of 2023 scoring hundred in all three formats of the game for India but could not replicate his form in the West Indies tour.

“He is a big match player, and he is destined for special things. I will have a lot of time for Shubman Gill, and I believe he is going to become one of the best that has ever played the game,” Dinesh Karthik added.

He has been in the form of life since the start of the 2023 season, proving to be a vital cog for the Indian team in all three formats of the game and would be a crucial player for India in Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023.
